Sarah Matthews is a 2016 MA Art & the Book graduate from the Corcoran College of Arts and Design at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Matthews also received an MBA with a Marketing Concentration in 2005 and a BS in Sociology in 2000 from Bowie State University in Bowie, MD. Mrs. Matthews’ work has been exhibited in the US and is a part of the permanent collections of Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, George Washington University’s Gelman Library, University of Puget Sound, and Samford University. Mary Ruth's Press is named after her paternal grandmother, Mary Ruth Bowens, who was an elder, singer, and poet. Her life's work is truly an inspiration to her granddaughter. Mrs. Matthews currently teaches printmaking and bookbinding as an Adjunct Faculty at Anne Arundel Community College and Howard Community College and as an Art Instructor at the Columbia Art Center in Maryland.

Mrs. Matthews currently teaches bookbinding at Anne Arundel Community College and printmaking at The Columbia Art Center and The Frederick Book Arts Center.
