+ \ – was created by Sarah Matthews in 2016 for her thesis project at the Corcoran College of Art & Design, George Washington University, Washington, DC. The game board is relief-printed with Gomuban with patterns inspired by traditional African textiles. This work was updated in 2025 for the Inside Out exhibition at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, addressing ongoing racial tensions, the rollback of DEI initiatives, and the enduring impact of negative imagery and systemic inequities on African American communities.
